Active User without KSE licence

Hello, I have a user who is currently using Katalon, and I want to transfer her license to another person. However, in the user management configuration, I only see that she is active without any license assigned. How is this possible?

  • Seat-Based Licenses (TestOps - Full, Katalon Studio Enterprise): Each user needs an exclusive, individual license
  • Session-Based Licenses (TestCloud, Katalon Runtime Engine): Licenses are allocated based on active sessions, not individual users
  • Offline Licenses: Bound to specific machines, not users

If your user is using a session-based license or has free access, they may not show a dedicated license assignment in user management.

How to Transfer a License

To transfer a license to another person, follow these steps:

This is expected behavior in Katalon.

“Active” status in User Management only indicates that the user is part of the workspace and can access the platform. It does not imply that a KSE license is assigned.

A user can be active without a license if:

  • The license was previously unassigned, or

  • The user is only using free/basic features

To transfer the license:

  • Go to License Management

  • Verify if the license is available or assigned to another user

  • Assign it directly to the new user

If no license is currently assigned to that user, there is nothing to transfer.
