Scents, fragrances, and everything in between 🫧

Today, I feel like starting a thread that delves into the realm of vanity, specifically about anything fragrance-related i.e. perfume, scented candles, body mist, body spray, etc. you name it.

:point_right: Feel free to share with us about: your first perfume/cologne, the last/most recent fragrance that you bought, what kind of scent do you like, and so on.

I’ll go first…

At the begining of this year, I bought my first bottle of designer perfume from Salvatore Ferragamo…

… it’s a green & floral scent with a slight hint of muskiness that leans a bit feminine (even though it was marketed as a unisex scent).

And, my most recent purchase was Philosykos (roughly translated to “Friend of the Fig Tree” in Greek) from Diptyque.

… it’s another green smelling fragrance. However, the “greeness” here is rather photorealistic, as if someone just took a bunch of fresh leaves (I guess in this case fig leaves) and crush them up → that’s what I get at first spray. Around 15-30 minutes later, the leafy scent subsides, and a sweet, milky scent emerges (pretty sure this is the scent of the fig fruit itself). And a few hours later, what’s left is a light woodiness with a hint of sweetness. I’ve never tasted figs before, but guess now I can at least smell it.

Is there any fragrances that you like? Share them below

My favorite one is Bleu De Chanel (EDP). I think it’s a safe choice for every session and occasion. I love the scent but don’t really like the performance. It’s gone after 3-4 hours.

Recently, I’ve been more into dupes or clones since they’re much more budget friendly. I get to buy more teehee. I’m switching between 9 PM and Club de Nuit Intense Man as my everyday wear. Both are fruity, sweet, and fresh.

Ah, another designer one that I really like is Giorgio Armani Acqua Di Giò Profondo EDP. It’s fresh, long-lasting, and flexible.

Oh jeez, 212 Carolina Herrera is the one I wanna try. I see lots of people recommending it. Is it long lasting?

Haha yes, it’s not always about testing on our forum, and that why we created the Off-topic space for our members to discuss non-testing topics that they’re interested in.

I’m assuming that you’re referring to the 212 Men launched back in 1999?

Do you have specific scents for when you go to work, or on holiday, or when you attend a party? Or do you just use whatever you feel like that day?

@viet.nguyen I’m looking at the original 212 Men on Fragrantica.com and it seems that people rate it as pretty long lasting.

You can always buy a 10ml decant and test one out yourself

People say the Blue de Chanel is long lasting too. But it’s probably different from batch to batch. Mine doesn’t have that high performance (at an okay level though) but that’s probably because I travel with my motorbike most of the time (wind takes the scent away from me :frowning:).

That may be one of the reasons.

Skin chemistry also plays a large role in determining not just how the fragrance smells on your skin, but also how long it’s going to last. For example, my skin does very poorly with perfumes have Oud (Agarwood or “trầm hương” in Vietnamese) and result in this sour smell.

And last but not least, reformulations. Some YouTubers have said that every few years the brands will have to reformulate their existing perfume as forced by the IFF (Interational Flavors & Fragrances) due to the old ingredients not being environmentally friendly, or that they’re not good for our health, etc.

In that case, the perfumers usually use substitute ingredients with the hope that the results would replicate the original scent; and sometimes I believe this may affect the perfume’s perfomance as well :person_shrugging:

Yeah that’s the 212 Men CH i have been using for some years!
