I measured how much Microsoft Defender Antivirus slows down Katalon Studio GUI startup. On my machine, I got the following result:
- Katalon Studio installation folder defended — 2 min 58 seconds
- Katalon Studio installation folder excluded — 1 min 47 seconds
I was much stressed waiting for the slow start up of Katalon Studio on Windows.
Once the Katalon Studio installation folder is excluded, the startup time got much shortened. The time taken was similar to on Mac.
Environment
- usual laptop, Windows 11 Home
- Katalon Studio v10.3.1
Time measurement criteria
I started the stopwatch at double clicking the katalon.exe;
I stoped the stopwatch when the Katalon Studio GUI Window is opened and a message “Loading BDD scripts… 100%” came up and disappered
How to exclude the KS installation folder out of the protection scope
You can change the Windows settings.
Settings > Privacy & Security > Windows Security >Virus & threat protection
Under “Virus & threat protection settings”, click the like “Manage settings”
Under “Exclusion”, click the link “Add or remove exclusions”
Reply “yes” to the warning.
Added the Katalon Studio installation folder as an exclusion:
