Which licenses should be used to run Katalon Docker Image (https://docs.katalon.com/katalon-studio/docs/docker.html))

Which licences should be used to run Katalon Docker Image (https://docs.katalon.com/katalon-studio/docs/docker.html)?

Should it be KSE license or KRE license or both? Should it be online or offline licences? Should it be Node-Locked, Floating or Dev-Ops license?

There is no info about it at https://docs.katalon.com/katalon-studio/docs/docker.html

As per the links above, it’s a KS image. On the other hand, as per https://docs.katalon.com/katalon-studio/docs/license.html#katalon-runtime-engine, “DevOps License
This license type is applied to cloud or virtual machines with dynamic hardware specifications (to execute tests in Docker, Azure, AWS).”

You will need DevOps license to run Katalon Docker Image

Thanks, duyluong. I’d just like to double-check because I am able to run it with my free trial online activation (not sure which one KSE, KRE, or both). Also, like I wrote before, “As per the links above, it’s a KS image”. Why would you need KRE DevOps license to run KSE?

It’s not like I’m arguing or something like that. I’m just trying to understand it better in order to be able to explain it to my superiors. You see, we (me especially)) want to use Katalon in our company and our company is ready to pay. But all these licences are very confusing and not well documented.

Hi, Docker Image is KRE Image, which is the execution engine. It’s not KSE, the name of the repository is KS (admittedly confusing) due to legacy reasons.

Thank you, ThanhTo,

As per duyluong, “You will need DevOps license to run Katalon Docker Image”.

Currently, I have KSE and KRE with free trial online activation. I don’t have DevOps license. And I am able to run Katalon Docker Image. Could you please explain this? Thanks.

Hello everyone,

You’re recommended to read this announcement regarding the consolidation of both Katalon Runtime Engine DevOps and Floating licenses into one licensing offering, Floating .

HI everyone!

As per the consolidation of DevOps and Floating licenses announcement, is there anyone to confirm that it will be possible to run KRE in Docker after the valid DevOps license renewal and upgrade to the Floating one (non enterprise)?

The company has purchased one more Floating licence (non enterprise) and as of today I was not able to get the Docker image to fetch and activate that license (given the old APIkey and the one created after Floating licence purchase). It looks only for availible DevOps licenses. Any suggestions?

Perhaps @Jass or @ThanhTo have some additional info…

On local machine I am able to access the regular license, but within docker (latest 8.0.1 version) it still requests the DevOps license… I am confused here

Appreciate your time!

Hello there @anton.d

Have you opened a ticket on our support system? We have dedicated agents there to resolve your issues. Otherwise, we’d have to wait on someone who can resolve this sees this post on the forum.

Hi all,

If anyone comes across this issue, it is confirmed that once your old DevOps licenses expire docker image CAN trigger floating licences, but not untill there is a valid and available DevOps license.

@ThanhTo yes, contacted the support and they confirmed that it will work once DevOps licenses expire. It’s just that to me it would be more logical to trigger any kind of license once the decision has been made to deprecate one.

Have a nice day!
