As our team approaches licence renewal I thought I’d share my understanding of the situation, since the documentation might otherwise get confusing for users!
Users can still download the packages they use today - KSE is still a thing, KRE is still a thing, they are not being replaced. Tests can still be created by a recorder or manually but in addition there are AI options (documented on the site). The applications we use remain the same but the licensing model is the thing changing. Would be very grateful for any non-AI feedback you lot can add here!
Copilot summarises it thus:
One clear sentence you can use internally
“Katalon Studio and Katalon Runtime Engine are still downloaded and installed as separate binaries; True Platform layers licensing, analytics, and orchestration on top, not instead.”
I am bringing the team in.
Yes, what you’re saying is correct.
Hi @Dan_Bown - great summary, and thank you for sharing this with Katalon Community.
Just to confirm and add a few details:
- Correct - KSE and KRE remain as separate installable binaries. Your team downloads and uses them the same way.
- True Platform is AI quality management platform, containing all capabilities your team has experienced with KSE, KRE and even MORE (test management, manual testing, reporting and analytics, collaboration, etc.).
- Existing test scripts and workflows are fully compatible - no migration or rework required.
Please refer to the concept of True Platform via the information center here: Katalon True Platform Information Center | See It in Action
If there are specific areas where your team felt lost, we’d love to hear them so we can prioritize and update the docs specifically.
Thanks again for being a great community contributor!
