Running Test-Case on Mobile android emulator error message appears: No Chromedriver found that can automate Chrome '113.0.5672'

Hi,

I am using windows 10, katalon studio 9.3.0 Build 212.
Running Android Mobile Test-Case the error message “No Chromedriver found that can automate Chrome ‘113.0.5672’.” appears.

I added the newly downloaded ChromeDriver to the
"C:\Users<user_name>\AppData\Roaming\npm\node_modules\appium\node_modules\appium-chromedriver\chromedriver\win" folder,
but the error message is still the same.

Does anyone have an idea what I’m doing wrong?

Hi dineshh,

I don’t understand you.
The error log is not only in the screenshot.
I also attached it in the text from.

Is there no one with an idea?

hi @rolfratschmeier

the folder you copied the driver into belongs to the old appium 1 layout. with appium 2 the uiautomator2 driver carries its own copy of appium-chromedriver, so the one under AppData\Roaming\npm\node_modules\appium is never looked at. that is why nothing changed.

simplest fix is to stop guessing folders and point the driver at the file directly. download chromedriver 113 (the “chrome for testing” archive still has it), then in Project > Settings > Desired Capabilities > Mobile > Android add:

chromedriverExecutable String C:\drivers\chromedriver-113\chromedriver.exe

appium uses that binary for every webview / chrome session and skips the version lookup. if you have several emulators on different chrome versions, use chromedriverExecutableDir instead and drop all the chromedriver exes in that one folder, the driver picks the matching one.

the other option is to update chrome on the emulator itself (113 is from april 2023), a play store image or sideloading the chrome apk gets you to a current version so the bundled chromedriver matches again.

Adding few more details to Depa’s end-to-end covered explanation, to make the fix easier to apply:

  1. Confirm what you need to match. Run adb shell dumpsys package com.android.chrome | grep versionName on the emulator. ChromeDriver’s major version must match Chrome’s (113.x here).
  2. With Appium 2, non-standard capabilities generally need the vendor prefix, so if chromedriverExecutable seems ignored, try appium:chromedriverExecutable.
  3. The error message suggests enabling automated downloads, but chromedriverAutodownload also requires an insecure-feature flag when starting the Appium server. Since Katalon starts Appium for you, pointing to a fixed executable is simpler and more predictable.
  4. After the change, check the Appium log at session start to see which Chromedriver it picked.
  5. The most durable fix is an updated Chrome, so you aren’t pinning an old driver.

Are you still facing the issue?
