I just recently saw the announcement of Live Testing on Forum, not yet try it but how does Live Testing compare to tools like BrowserStack or LambdaTest? Is it possible to share a live session with a teammate to debug together? Would love that for quick collabs. Thank you
just tried the new Katalon Live Testing feature and realized that the UI is similar to LambdaTest.
so, is Katalon Live Testing basically a LambdaTest wrapper?
Is there any test data passed in the test case stored in TestCloud when executing test scripts on private Mobile Devices shared via TestCloud? Especially if the Session Retention option is enabled (Use TestCloud private mobile devices | Katalon Docs)?
Hi @sylwester.stelmach,
When executing test scripts on TestCloud private mobile devices, the test data that is passed into the test case is consumed and processed during the test execution itself, but it is generally not persistently stored by TestCloud. Once the test step using that data is complete, TestCloud’s primary function is to record the actions performed, the results and execution artifacts. The Session Retention feature for Private Devices refers to keeping the device state and app installation persistent across multiple consecutive test runs on your private device. It means the device isn’t wiped clean after every session. In summary, TestCloud focuses on storing the outcome and visual/log evidence of the test execution. Your input test data is transiently used during the run, but not typically persisted by TestCloud itself.
Hi @depapp,
Thank you for trying the new Katalon Live Testing feature and for your observation regarding the UI. Lemme pass this to our team for review. Meanwhile, how are you enjoying this feature, would you love to get some help with use cases for it?
Hi @DucLa ,
Thank you for your interest in Katalon Live Testing! We’re excited to hear you saw the announcement.
Katalon Live Testing is designed to provide robust, scalable real-device testing as a core component of the Katalon ecosystem. It offers a seamless workflow with Katalon Studio and TestOps, unique built-in features like automatic result logging with Katalon Manual test function, and planned future innovations such as manual-to-automation test conversion. This tailored experience within our comprehensive platform is where its true value lies.
Regarding your question about sharing a live session for collaborative debugging: Currently, Katalon Live Testing does not support sharing a live session link for real-time collaborative debugging. This is a valuable feature, and we appreciate your feedback on it.
We encourage you to try Live Testing and experience its power firsthand!
Feel free to let me know if you have any concerns.
Thank you.
Hi @depapp, thanks for the interesting observation. Our product team’s north star is to ensure we offer the best feature value to users. The new Live Testing capabilities aim to achieve that said goal:
Automatically logging test results and artifacts directly to your manual testing tools in TestOps.
Providing the technology for automatic conversion of manual test steps into automation scripts, saving countless hours and boosting efficiency!
I believe Katalon and other testing tools always want to provide the seamless and smooth experience to users, hence new features are being developed. I see your comment as an interesting market opportunity for any company, take smart phone for example, they are improving camera functionalities to offer users better experience. It might seem similar but all development always take user-centric approach. In this case, we do just that.
Hi @ha.tpham I’d like to ask that if TestCloud can help us to quickly create tests from Katalon Studio directly on real mobile devices, without all the usual device setup hassle? Thank you in advanced!
Hi @ColinL
Yes, absolutely! One of TestCloud’s core objectives is to help you quickly create and execute tests directly on real mobile devices, without the usual device setup hassle.
Here’s how TestCloud streamlines this for you:
No Device Lab Maintenance: You eliminate the need to procure, set up, and maintain your own physical mobile device lab. TestCloud provides instant access to a vast array of real Android and iOS devices in the cloud.
Seamless Integration with Katalon Studio: You can directly leverage Katalon Studio’s powerful mobile test recorder and builder. Instead of connecting to a local device, you simply select a TestCloud device, and the recorder will launch your app on that cloud device.
Simplified Environment Configuration: TestCloud handles the complex environment setup (Appium server, device drivers, etc.) in the background, allowing you to focus purely on test creation.
Direct Execution: Once your test is created, you can execute it immediately on any available TestCloud device with just a few clicks.
Our goal is to make mobile test creation and execution as effortless as possible, so you can focus on building high-quality applications.
We’re confident this will significantly accelerate your mobile testing efforts!
