Stumbled upon an interesting article on The Verge about the future of photography in the age of Generative AI, in particularly the ability for just about anyone now to alter captured images with added visual elements that looks deceptively real.
How do you think we will be able to tell AI-altered images from non-altered ones in the future?

It reminds me of Dune, where technology went so far forward that we went back to royal houses and hand to hand combat.
Now that photographic and video evidence will be of little future use - relationships and reputation could have far higher importance than “proof”.

I think both of those factors are already reshaping our culture as we speak, what with all the online influencers and celebrities (and to an extent, the “parasocial relationship” that many of their followers have with them).
It will be interesting to see, for example, if a person is a fan (or worse, a "stan") of two influencers/celebrities, and they both have conflicting views/beliefs/version of something that has happened. Imagine the cognitive dissonance that said fan would have...
Regardless, do you think tech companies like Google should have the responsibility to develop technologies to detect when an image has been AI-altered to prevent misinformation?
