Getting a error message "Please protect ports used by ChromeDriver and related test frameworks to prevent access by malicious code."

chrome

When I am trying to open a browser, we are getting an error “Please protect ports used by ChromeDriver and related test frameworks to prevent access by malicious code.”

#2

My current Chrome version is 74 and it is updated today morning.

When i am running testcase i am getting below error like chrome version should be 70 and 73.

#3

Hi.
Can you try to donwnload ChromeDriver for version 74.

Cheers !

#4

Thanks @ThanhTo, it worked. I replaced the chrome driver in drivers folder.

#5

Still got it on Chrome 74, getting the same message for Chrome 75 as well

#6

Best “Chrome-head” is @Brandon_Hein - perhaps he’ll take a looksee.

#7

Which version of Katalon are you using?

#8

I’m on 6.1.5

#9

Hmmm so 6.1.5 uses chromedriver 74:

And I was able to open a browser using Chrome 75 without a problem (albeit with a few warnings).

The best advice I can give is to download the latest version of the studio, which is currently 6.2.1:

https://www.katalon.com/download/

I’ve found that trying to manage the driver/browser versions myself to get them to agree with each other is a huge rabbit hole.

#10

Agreed!

I’ll try the update and see what happens! Thanks!

#11

@Brandon_Hein

Helpful?

#12

Dang, still getting that error/warning on 6.2.1 and it’s loading Chrome 75.

#13

There are two error messages in this topic actually. The first one from OP is:

And the second:

Which of these are you getting, or neither of these?

#14

Usually that message is benign, but it might play a role here.

#15

Found this out there too: http://chromedriver.chromium.org/security-considerations

I get this:

#16

Wait are you actually getting an error? Or just those “warnings”?

#17

I’m just getting the warnings…and now looking at the post, I’m not getting the error; my browser opens and runs.

#18

Nice, so no worries then  That message is CYA from Selenium, in case any nefarious characters somehow found your ports and decided to exploit them. If you’re testing applications behind a firewall, you definitely can ignore these messages.

Nefarious characters!!

Awesome! Thanks for putting up with me on that then!!

We are getting the same error again and we are unable to open the browser

In Katalon Console we are seeing chrome driver as 76 and chrome browser version is 75(up to date).
